Holy Thursday and Tenebrae

One of the good things of not having a job is that one will have time for all important mass for the easter. It was my first, maybe will be my last time that I could go to Chrism Mass in the morning. It is a beautiful mass and super big gathering of all the priests from Archdiocese. Archbishop blessed the oil and chrism.

Holy Thursday Mass of Traditional Latin Mass is definitely not that dramatic as the new mass. It is a kind of last peace and joy before the passion. When the bell rings and Gloria sang, my heart was sunk into a kind of deep sadness. The most emotional part of the mass is the part of procession to the altar of repose and following by the tearing down the altar. It represents that Jesus went to Garden of Gethsemane to pray and the end of Last super. We should pray at the altar of repose and keep vigilant. The big noise is not presented on the Holy Thursday in the Last super but good friday which was far more intense and emotional.

It is kind of pity that SFdS does not offer the Tenebrae after Holy Thursday Mass, So I had to run to Cathedral for that. Cathedral really did a good job in translating the prayer from Latin into English. They maintain the mystical style of Gregorian chant while at the same time make English very fit with the music. The Tenebrae, the prayer in the darkness. was a really intense moment for me. The teaching and prayer taught us the lesson we needed to know about the passion of our lord. The passion of our lord is far more beyond human mourning.

The end of the Tenebrae is always my favorite part. When there was only one candle lighting on the altar, then it disappeared with the noise and reappeared in quiet. It seemed to tell me that no matter how much suffering we will endure in this world. We have a little light in our heart. It seems not very power in this secular world, while, it is eternal and will lead us to our true home in heaven.
